Abstracts
Abstract requirements
The purpose of the abstract is briefly to summarise the purpose, methods and findings of your work. Abstracts will be used by judges to determine suitability for inclusion in the poster exhibition and should therefore contain sufficient detail to permit appraisal. The abstract must show evidence of implementation of a piece of national guidance (e.g. SIGN guideline recommendation, Scottish Diabetes Group Action Plan aim, Scottish Diabetes Survey data trend) and there must be a demonstration of patient-centred care.
Award categories
Submissions will be judged under five headings:
1. Integrated care
2. Research – developing the evidence base
3. Primary Care
4. Secondary Care
5. Patient and Public Involvement
Submission guidelines
• Authors wishing to participate in the conference poster display should return an abstract conforming to the requirements specified above and which is no longer than 350 words.
• Where posters are developed by more than one author, a designated lead author should submit the abstract.
• The abstract must include its word count.
• All abstracts must be submitted via this website.
• The deadline for submission has been extended to 1st March and notification will be made by email.
Selection
Abstracts will be reviewed blind and those meeting the selection criteria will be invited to display a poster at the conference. Poster size to be no larger than A0 (841mm x 1189mm) either landscape or portrait. We hope that the majority of posters will be available for viewing from 9 am on Tuesday 23 March at the conference venue.
Judgement
A panel of judges will inspect each poster during the morning of the conference and select a winner in each award category, based on pre-specified criteria which will be communicated to poster entrants in advance of the conference. The judges’ decision is final.
Awards presentation
£1,500 to be spent on research or placed into unit funds etc., will be awarded to the lead author of the poster judged as the winner in each category. The awards will be presented after lunch at the conference on Tuesday 23 March 2010 where the winners are expected to collect their prize.
The partners involved in organising or promoting the Awards each reserve the right to the publicity concerning the winning entry. All materials will be credited to the authors.
