Welcome
We are pleased to announce that Diabetes UK Scotland, the Scottish Government and
the Scottish Diabetes Industry Group will again jointly host Diabetes In Scotland
2008: Delivering Patient Centred Care on Tuesday 7th October at Heriot-Watt University,
Edinburgh. A free scientific symposium will also be held on the afternoon of Monday
6th October.
|
|
The 2008 conference follows on from the hugely successful events of 2002, 2004 and
2006, each attracting over 600 delegates including consultants, GPs, nurses, pharmacists
and other healthcare professionals involved in providing diabetes care. The main
objective of the conference is to bring together the diabetes health care professional
community in Scotland to update on progress since the publication of the reviewed
Scottish Diabetes Framework, to share good practice and stimulate new ideas. |
|
The conference also models a partnership approach between Diabetes UK Scotland,
the Scottish Government, NHS Scotland and the Scottish Diabetes Industry Group.
The conference will consist of plenary talks, a wide selection of workshops, poster
displays, awards and an exhibition.
|
|
The focus for this year's conference will be on a patient centered approach to diabetes
care. The aim of the conference will be to take the new ideas and information from
the talks and workshops, and turn them into local actions that can be applied across
Scotland. Too often in the past people have left these conferences without a clear
idea of "What does this mean to me?".
|
|
We have changed the format for this conference based on the feedback we have had
previously, so that whatever discipline/area/specialty you belong to, there will
be something you can take away from this conference. It will however still provide
a productive and enjoyable forum to network with your colleagues from all over Scotland.
|
|
The keynote speaker this year will be Betty Brackenridge from Phoenix Arizona, one
of the leading diabetes educators in America.
