Welcome
We are pleased to announce that Diabetes UK Scotland, the Scottish Intercollegiate
Guidelines Network (SIGN), the Scottish Government and the Scottish Diabetes Industry
Group will jointly host Diabetes 2010 and beyond: Knowledge into Practice on Tuesday
23rd March at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh. A free scientific symposium will
also be held on the afternoon of Monday 22nd March.
|
|
The 2010 conference is the fifth in a series of biennial events that started in
2002 which has attracted over a thousand delegates over the years, including consultants,
GPs, nurses, pharmacists and other professionals providing diabetes care. The main
objective of the conference is to bring together the diabetes healthcare professional
community in Scotland to update on progress since the publication of the reviewed
Scottish Diabetes Framework, to share good practice and stimulate new ideas.
|
|
The conference also models a partnership approach between Diabetes UK Scotland,
SIGN, the Scottish Government, NHS Scotland and the Scottish Diabetes Industry Group.
The conference will consist of plenary talks, a wide selection of workshops, poster
displays, awards and an exhibition.
|
|
With the imminent publication of key documents which will help shape the service
provision for people with diabetes in the coming years, the conference will focus
on the crucial step of translating the recommendations into routine clinical care,
and will explore what this means, in practical terms, for different specialties.
|
|
We have changed the format for this conference based on the feedback we have had
previously, so that whatever discipline/area/specialty you belong to, there will
be something you can take away from this conference. It will however still provide
a productive and enjoyable forum to network with your colleagues from all over Scotland.
|
|
The keynote speaker this year will be Dr Harry Burns, Chief Medical Officer for
Scotland and the John Ireland Lecture will be delivered by Professor Andrew Morris.
